Sixty students, from across all the year groups, gathered for the Inter-House Book Quiz on Wednesday night (18th October), where the prize – a silver cup – graced the team table of Sullivan, the 2016 winners…
Using a table quiz format each House submitted a team (one representative from each year group) to compete over six rounds (10 questions per round). Each round used a different style or theme, e.g. cropped book cover images, dingbats, true or false and opening sentences, to test students’ book knowledge.
The latter proved the most challenging round. In general the teams showed differing strengths in the various rounds and the competition was open to a number of teams taking the cup from Sullivan who were themselves strong contenders for retaining the trophy. In the end Sullivan headed by Frankie O’Reilly graciously handed the cup to the captain of Xavier’s team, Johnny Hennebry.
The Inter-House Book Quiz was initiated three years ago and reflects the reading interests across all years in the school, hence the importance and value of a participant from each year group. The event has been adopted as part of the school’s Inter-House League and points scored by each house last night will be added to those of various House events to be held during the year.
Thanks to the House Leaders for organising their teams particularly those who participated. Gratitude to Mr Shalvey for acting as question master, Mrs Lumb for helping with correcting and Mr Kelly for his presence and support.
