‘Sullivan’ Win Literary Quiz - Clongowes Wood College

Posted: 13th April 2016

Headed by their House leader, Michael Stapleton, quiz team ‘Sullivan’ scooped first place in this year’s James Joyce Library Literary Quiz. Stapleton with team mates, Rian McKeagney, Frankie Reilly, Dylan Liddy and Luc Curley scored 46 points out of a possible 50. They were very strong contenders throughout the quiz, their first round kicked off with a score of ‘8’. Though not the top scorer after Round 1 their scoring increased as the quiz proceeded and they took up position 1 at the end of Round 4, scoring 10 for a round of general literature questions.

There was little in it between several of the teams after Round 4. Gonzaga, Kenny, Kostka and Claver were all in position to clinch it in the final with a score of 10 if Sullivan dropped a point or two in the final dingbats book titles round. Sullivan however impressed again with a score of 10 to win the quiz and claim the James Joyce Library Literary Cup from ‘Collins’, last year’s winning House.

The James Joyce Library Literary Quiz is an inter-house event that was inaugurated last year. Each House team is made up of a student from each year and is put together by the House leader who may choose to be part of the team or not. Unfortunately, this year Grammar was unable to participate as they were writing up Science Projects for their Junior Cert. However this did not take from the event which was an enjoyable affair. It would not have been possible without the assistance of Mr Brendan Shalvey (Quizmaster), Mrs Eileen Lumb and Mr Tom Carroll (Correctors) and Blazej Sikora SJ. (Scoremaster). Thank you to everyone who participated in the quiz and to the House Leaders who attended the event to support their teams.
