Past v Present Tennis - Clongowes Wood College

Posted: 8th October 2026

Past met Present once again on Sunday 20th September for the second renewal of The Past v Present Tennis Match on the new courts at Clongowes. Last year, it was the team of students that took the cup so the OCs were under pressure to preform at their best!

Games took place on the newly (2025) refurbished courts at the school – a development that included new surface and floodlighting.

It was a beautiful afternoon which showed the courts to their full potential and the quality tennis on display attracted some spectators including our Headmaster and Director of Sport.

The present team had a very international flavour with players from Ireland, Germany, the US and France but on this occasion the Past redeemed themselves and came out on top.

,The tennis was followed by a superb dinner in the Castle where the trophy was presented to Past Captain, Niall McCarthy (OC ’89), who commented: “I have very fond memories of representing the College in Leinster schools tennis competitions during my time here and the resurfaced courts and new floodlights will increase participation in tennis throughout the school year and hopefully result in success in future competitions.”

Congratulations to the Past Team:
Darragh Ahern OC ’25
Sascha Byrne OC ’24
