Day in the Life of a Clongowes Boarder
““Now he’s quite bored with a phone – he stops after a short amount of time and wants to go and do something more interesting.”
A day in the life of a boarder at Clongowes is packed full from 7 am to 10pm. Boys are surrounded by an incredible number of opportunities in our 55o acre campus, just 30 kilometres from Dublin. As all boys are full boarders, they enjoy living with their friends and building life-long bonds. Full boarding enables them to enjoy this to the fullest.
Download our Guide ‘4 Reasons Why Full Boarding Could Be The Best Choice For Your Son” to gain a fuller understanding of what it means to be ‘fully boarding’ at Clongowes Wood College, and why we believe it is crucial to developing young men of character, resilience, and purpose – truly, Men of Others.
A Catholic school in the Jesuit tradition, Clongowes supports students in a greater understanding of their faith, and the part it plays throughout their lives. Because students board here from First Year (Elements), they enjoy an all-round education in a dynamic living and learning community. Our facilities are exemplary, and each student has the opportunity, support and guidance to help them develop and grow to their full potential. Ours is a mobile phone-free learning environment during the day, with the boys getting access to their phones for only 1.5 hours in the evening. Though as the Parent above attests, they often prefer doing other activities such as playing ping pong, swimming, or playing cards with friends in they boarding house.
Since 1814, Clongowes alumni have been leaders in the area of business, sports, politics and the arts. Today, we are home to 450 boys from Ireland and from other countries.
Clongowes offers a unique experience for boys from 12 to 18 – a warm and nurturing home from home, where every student benefits from an all-round education in a positive, welcoming environment. Boarding mirrors the best of family life – full of laughter, support, and values – while building independence.
But we know full boarding can sound daunting compared to ‘day school’ or ‘weekly boarding’. At Clongowes we truly believe that full boarding gives boys a fuller life both at school, as well as teaching him life-long skills and forging friendships that are more like brotherhoods, to give him a fuller life after school as well.
