The Clongowes premiere of The Shadow of a Gunman brings together two exciting talents: writer Sean O’Casey (author of The Gigli Concert and Conversations on a Homecoming) and director Tom Carroll, fresh from his recent successes with Drumbelly (2014) and Conversations on a Homecoming (2015) and A Whistle in the Dark (2016).
The Shadow of a Gunman is a 1923 play by O’Casey set during the Irish War of Independence. It centres on the mistaken identity of a building tenant who is thought to be an IRA assassin. It is the first in O’Casey’s ‘Dublin Trilogy’ – the other two being Juno and the Paycock (1924) and The Plough and the Stars (1926).
O’Casey’s controversial play will be given a fresh airing on the Clongowes stage for two nights only on Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th November at 19.00 in the Sports Hall.
