This year, the Syntax Parent Day will take place on Sunday 8th October 2017 and we are very pleased to announce that Fr Peter McVerry S.J. will be the guest speaker.
Fr McVerry (OC’62) is an Irish Jesuit who needs little introduction to many of us. He is a powerful voice especially as a champion of the plight of those on the margins of society, who are homeless and suffer various addictions. His perspective comes from years of personal experience working and living in inner city Dublin and Ballymun, and working day-today with people in desperate need of care.
Fr Peter is a Clongowes past pupil and has very kindly come to speak to our Syntax group of parents and students for the past number of years. He is the only speaker who comes back year after year as the topics he presents are particularly relevant and current. Past Evaluations include
“Excellent – very informative and interesting”
“Inspiring and thought provoking”
“Tremendous speaker”
“Great for the boys to hear about the needs of others and the possibility of reaching out”
The day will begin at approximately 09.15am with refreshments in the Concourse before Fr Peter speaks. Eucharist will be in the Sports Hall at 11H30. Afterwards you are very welcome to have lunch in the refectory. In your response, please let us know if you will be staying for lunch so we can give accurate numbers to our catering staff.
Please RSVP to Liz Griffin at lgriffin@clongowes.net or 045 838294 before Wednesday 27th September.
