Welcoming Brother Jeff - Clongowes Wood College

Posted: 1st February 2016

Clongowes Wood College SJ

Last month saw the arrival Brother Jeffrey Pioquinto SJ in Clongowes and he will remain with us until Easter as part of his tertianship. The Rector, Fr Michael Sheil tells us more…

Br Jeff is continuing a wonderful tradition of the European Tertianship in Dublin whereby – in the second term – we are privileged to have in the Community and on the College Staff one of the Jesuits finishing out their formation in the Society of Jesus. In the past we have been visited by Fr Chiedza Chimhanda (Zimbabwe – now current Provincial), Fr Stephen Patterson (UK – Parish Priest in Preston), Fr Antonio Fernando (Portugal – now Professor in Rome) and Fr Albert Bacar (Asia). They all are a reminder to us of the worldwide companionship, which Jesuits share in the Society.

We are delighted to welcome Jeff this year and look forward to the contribution, which, thanks to his vast experience in the educational apostolate in the Far East, will enrich Clongowes during the coming months.

A warm Céad míle Fáilte to you, Jeff – and thank you for being with us.

Bother Jeff takes up the story…

I’m Jeffrey U. Pioquinto, SJ and I’m on my last stage of formation as a brother of the Society of Jesus, called Tertianship, in Cardoner House-Manresa Compound in Dublin. After that, I will fly back to the Philippines and then to East Timor for my new assignment as a Jesuit missionary, where I most probably will still be involved in a school.

I come from Zamboanga City, which is in the southwestern most part of the Philippines and studied in Jesuit school – Ateneo de Zamboanga University. I did most of my formation as a Jesuit in Metro Manila and took my Masters in Ateneo de Manila University on Philosophy, History, Counselling, Retreat Giving and Theology. For my Regency I was assigned to the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu to teach Christian Living, Education and History.

I have a keen interest in the formation of teachers and students, especially in Ignatian Spirituality. Previously I was the minister of the community in Ateneo de Davao University and was in-charge of the vocation promotions for our region. I was chairman of the Jesuit Brothers Assistancy in Asia and the Pacific and headmaster of a secondary school. I have also taught Computer or Information Technology in Ateneo de Davao University.

I love photography, filmmaking, swimming and table tennis. I’m very active in social media like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, for it is the best medium to reach out to the young especially on faith and evangelization.
