Following an excellent third place finish at the National Junior (Under 20) Cross Country Championship in November, Jack O’Leary (Rhetoric) was selected on the Irish national team for the European Cross Country Championships to be held in Hyeres, France last Sunday, December 13th. Jack did very well in a very competitive field (and a very tough race), finishing as the leading Irish runner in the Junior Race in 23rd place.
This was Jack’s second appearance at these championships, having represented Ireland in Sarokov, Bulgaria last year. What makes this even more impressive is that he could yet make it three in a row, as he will still be underage next year.
Jack (pictured above with Michael Spillane, Elements and Christian Casey, Poetry at the recent Kildare Country Championships) continues to make tremendous progress as a middle distance athlete and his recent acceptance of a prestigious athletics scholarship from Iona University, New York is sure to propel him further.
