Union Day - Clongowes Wood College

Posted: 21st May 2015

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I would like to invite you to join us for the celebration of Union Day in Clongowes on Sunday 24th May.

Rhetoric and all parents are invited to Prize Giving, which will take place at 4:15 in the Sports Hall.  This will include speeches by the Headmaster and outgoing School Captain.

Union Day is one of the great traditions that have helped to make Clongowes what it is.  It is the occasion when the graduating class effectively finish their second-level schooling, when the incoming School Captain, Secretary and Vice-Captain are appointed, and when the new President of the Union takes up his Chain of Office.

It is also one of the principal social days in the College calendar.  The traditional picnic will take place as usual.  The Parents’ Association will also provide entertainment on the day, with a climbing-wall, face painting, games etc.  The traditional Tug-O-War and Penalty Shoot Out will also be on offer.

At the end of Union Day circa 18:30, Rhetoric students will depart with their parents on a pre-public exam break, returning on Monday June 1st.

We hope you and your family will be able to join us and I look forward to seeing you on the 24th.  In the interim may you and your family be blessed with the Lord’s peace!

Yours sincerely,

Fr Leonard Moloney, SJ
