Brendan Campbell RIP - Clongowes Wood College

Posted: 15th December 2014

We have just heard the sad news of the death of Brendan Campbell, former Physics teacher in Clongowes (1955-1996) following a long illness. Brendan will be remembered fondly by several generations of Old Clongownians as an inspirational teacher and thorough gentleman.

Brendan (or ‘Bolly’ as he was known to his charges) took pride in being a Donegal man – he never lost a smidgin of that brogue – as well as in his contribution to Clongowes. We younger teachers used to be amused to hear him tell new students ‘I taught your Daddy’; a phrase which we are now proud to borrow for ourselves.

At the request of his wife, Joy, he will have his last Mass here this morning (Tuesday 16th) – before transferring to Newlands Cross crematorium. Fr Conor Harper sj will be  be Principal Celebrant and  six Rhetoricians – whose Fathers were taught by “Bolly” – will carry his coffin. The Elements choir will sing – and Maura Weedle will play
