Gold medal for Josh Pim - Clongowes Wood College

Posted: 9th October 2013

Congratulations are due to Josh Pim (Rhetoric – second from right) who was part of the Irish team that won gold at the European Eventing Championships for Young Riders and Juniors last month. Here’s how he described his experience…

‘On Monday, September 9th My team mates and I flew into France to compete in the European Eventing Championships in Haras de Jardy, between Paris and Versailles. 23 nations took part with six riders each, four on a team and two individuals and I was lucky enough to be selected on the Irish team.

After the dressage on the Thursday and Friday we were in the bronze medal position behind the Germans and the British. Saturday was cross-country; the weather was terrible, but nothing that the Irish were not used to and by the end of the day we were in the lead, with only show-jumping to go. The Swiss team was in second and they put pressure on us to perform and we didn’t disappoint.

It was a great feeling to win the gold medal and to be able to say that you are the best team in Europe is pretty spectacular as well!’
