On Wed ten Third Line students were presented with certificates by Fr Moloney for their participation in the Book Bingo reading challenge, launched earlier this year. The challenge was presented in a grid of sixteen squares with a different reading challenge in each, e.g. read a biography, read a graphic novel, read a book set in a non-English speaking country. Completing a line of the grid earned the participants a bronze certificate. Ten students were awarded bronze certificates. Luke Clohessey was the sole representative from Elements , with the nine others coming from Rudiments; St. John Dundon, Keenan Crutchley, Haig Oman, Patrick O’Brien, Colm O’Sullivan, Sean Ojejinmi, Dan Gannon, James Lambe and Brian Murphy. Four students also received a silver certificate as they completed two lines of the grid; Luke Clohessey, St John Dundon, Patrick O’Brien and Colm O’Sullivan.
The challenge was set as a literacy initiative in order to stretch the students’ reading beyond their usual comfort zone and expose them to new authors, genres and styles of writing. Well done to all who participated.
