As part of our celebrations for Christian Unity Week, we at C.W.C. were delighted to welcome staff and students from The King’s Hospital who came to celebrate mass with us in the Sport’s Hall. Rev. Peter Campion, chaplain at K.H. and Sarah Bill, Co-Ordinator of weekend activities, took 9 students with them to Clongowes on Sunday 27th. Mass in the Sport’s Hall was celebrated by Fr. Alan McGuckian S.J., brother of Fr. Barney S.J., who is part of our Jesuit community here.
After Mass, the students of K.H. enjoyed a leisurely lunch with our students in the Refectory, while Peter and Sarah were taken to lunch in the community, along with Fr. Peter McVerry S.J., who was also visiting the College for the Syntax Parent Day.
Later in the evening, I along with Fr. Fernando Antonio S.J. and Cyril Murphy returned the visit when we took our own students over to K.H. for Evening Prayer. This was a beautiful occasion and one in which there was a lot of effort given to making us feel welcome. Rev. Peter spoke about the differences that we often encounter between ourselves and others throughout life and how these ought to be celebrated, not used as a reason for division. We at C.W.C. are truly grateful to K.H. for their solidarity and compassion and for their extreme generosity to our school with their time and effort.
Afterward, C.W.C. students were treated to hot chocolate in the staffroom while Peter and his wife Rebecca hosted refreshments for the adults in their home on campus. Helping us were the Headmaster of K.H., Mr. Michael Hall and his wife, Eunice, Assistant Headmaster, Mr. John Rafter and Mr. John Aiken, head of Pastoral Care in the school. Sincere thanks to all involved to make this event meaningful and very enjoyable.
