The Irish Freemasons Young Musician of the Year

Richard Thomas (OC’13) will be featured on RTE Lyric FM TONIGHT, Wednesday 18^th November at 8.00p.m. sharp (he’s first on). His 20 minute repertoire will include

• Prokofiev: Sonata 1^st movement
• Messiaen: Theme and Variations
• Saint-Saens: Havanaise

Richard is pursuing a BA in Music Performance at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin, where he studies violin with Dr. Fionnuala Hunt. He is currently in his 3rd year at The University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna on Erasmus with Professor Ernst Kovacic. He was chosen as one of the four finalists of the Irish Freemasons Young Musician of the Year 2015, having successfully progressed through the auditions in June and semi-final in October.  There were 13 musicians from all over Ireland ranging in age from 20 to 25 and Richard was one of the youngest competitors. The final was held in the Freemasons’ Hall on 10^th October and Richard gave an outstanding performance and was awarded 4^th place and a prize of €1,250.
