Your school needs you

Sunday 16th March, RDS – Kick off 2pm

The History: Clongowes Wood College has met Blackrock College in the Leinster Schools’ Senior Cup Final nine times since 1887 (1927, 1928, 1936, 1949, 1953, 1981, 1990, 1995 + 2004) but has always been second best. This year’s team has the potential to make history and become the first ever CWC team to beat Blackrock in the finals. They have put in the hard work and the hours of training but they need our support to push them over that historic line!

The Challenge: We are going to be outnumbered massively next Sunday as we are but a third of the size of Blackrock. We know our limitations but we need to defy them. As legendary golfer Arnold Palmer once said: ‘always make a total effort, even when the odds are against you’. We are part of that total effort. We can get behind those lads and give them that push. They deserve it.

The Support: Next Sunday is guaranteed to be an action packed family day out. Bring your Grannies, Granddads, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Friends, Neighbours, in fact anyone who will don the purple and white and is prepared to bolster our numbers to deafen the roar of the mighty “Rock”. We can do this – your school REALLY needs you to do this!Afters: The Clongowes Foundation is holding a reception for Alumni after the game, in the Clyde Room; RDS. All are welcome. Following that, Clongowes families and staff are invited to gather at theRadisson Blu Hotel in Golden Lane, Dublin 8, to celebrate our fourth Leinster Cup final in five years and to welcome this year’s Senior Cup Team. The Headmaster will host a light supper from 5.00 – 7.00pm.

Tickets: To secure a ticket for the event at the Radisson Blu, please e-mail your son’s prefect. These tickets will be ready for collection at a desk in the Radisson. It is important for the school to know numbers attending so please reserve tickets as necessary.

Please attend the game next Sunday. We would love for this team to make their dream come true, to win the Senior Cup Final in the School’s Bicentennial Year and for them to go down in the annals of time forever. With our backing they can do it.Good luck lads!Aiffric Egan,Chairperson, CWC Parent Association
