It’s debatable - Clongowes Wood College

On Thursday 4th of October Clongowes Higher Line debating team, consisting of Tom Cantillon (Captain), Billy O’Regan and Peter Stapleton took on St.Mary’s, Naas in the first leg of the Michael Rigby Jones Shield, the County Kildare inter-schools competition at Holy Family, Newbridge.  Named after the late industrialist Michael Rigby-Jones, the competition attracts teams from all over the county, including Clongowes.

C.W.C. proposed the motion “We believe in free speech and freedom of expression” and after much heated Debate with the Girls of St Mary’s the judges decided in favour of Clongowes. Well done to Tom, Billy and Peter and a special mention to their mentor Patricia Frampton and Gap Star Andy for their guidance.

It is encouraging seeing Higher Line leading and representing so strongly. We hope the new Third Line Debaters, who began their in-house debate series this week, are taking notes from their elders.
