Bicentenary Mass - Clongowes Wood College

Bicentenary Mass on Sunday, 14th

Next Sunday, 14th September, there will be a Mass in the Sports Hall at 11.15 to mark the bicentenary of the foundation of Clongowes in 1814. The Celebration of the Eucharist will be led by Fr Dermot Preston SJ, Provincial of the British Province. The presence of Fr Preston commemorates the debt the Irish Province owes to its British neighbour, which was key to its survival during the years of suppression between 1773 and 1814.

Throughout this period the British Jesuits gave shelter to some of their Irish brethren as well as taking care of their funds, which would eventually be used to purchase Castle Browne in order to open a school for young gentlemen. In a nice irony the monies had been invested by the Superior of the English Province in British Government stock…

Parents Gathering and Foundation Presentation

Following the Mass there will be a gathering of parents in the Science, Art and Technology Building, at which the Headmaster, Fr Leonard Moloney SJ, will announce some exciting news about the future of the college. This informal gathering will also provide an opportunity for parents to come together socially and we do hope that you can join us.
