As part of our fund raising campaign for the Clongowes Duck Push the students of Syntax are organising the Duck Push Golf Classic at the K-Club in Straffan Co. Kildare on Thursday 2nd May. There are places for up to 27 teams, each consisting of 4 golfers, to take part in this special annual event for which Dr Michael Smurfit (OC’53) has very kindly donated a Perpetual Cup. The day will commence with registration at 13.00, followed by a shotgun start on the Smurfit Course at 14.00, and will conclude with a meal and prize presentation in the Smurfit Clubhouse. The entry fee is €500 per team.
All monies raised through Duck Push related events are used to purchase valuable medical equipment for Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin. Like their predecessors, Transition Year 2019 are determined to do their very best for the young patients cared for by the hospital and you can help. For more than twenty years the Transition Year students in Clongowes Wood College have made raising money to buy a piece of life saving equipment for Crumlin Children’s Hospital an annual goal. Equipment has ranged from portable ultra sound machines (for use with children with limited mobility) to machines to help diagnose cancer patients more quickly.
Last June, 30 students accompanied by teachers took to the road once again pushing the Ducks from Crumlin Children’s Hospital in Dublin to Limerick. Over the last 25 years over €1.5 million has been raised and the group was hopeful that things would go well again this year. As well as pushing the Ducks across the country over eight days in June, students also raised money through a whole variety of activities during the preceding year. These ranged from mini companies and pop up cafes to coffee mornings by way of barbecues and washing cars and made use of a host of abilities, talents and skills along the way.
