We welcomed back the students of Rhetoric 2016 on Wednesday as they came to collect their Leaving Cert Results. It can be a tense time for both students and parents alike so it was heartening to see so many relieved and smiling faces once the envelopes had been opened.
The Leaving Cert results this year were strong with the boys attaining an average of 440 points which is well above the national average of 350 points. One third of the boys reached over 500 points with 17% achieving in excess of 550 points.
For those that read about the ambitions of Sean McMahon in our earlier post “Sean the Cantabrigian”, will be pleased to know that Sean has achieved the grades he needed to take his place in Cambridge. Many of his classmates will await the CAO offers anxiously and we wish them the best, and remind them that there are often many different roads down which we travel to reach our goals.
Headmaster Mr. Chris Lumb commented “I applaud the hard work of our Leaving Certificate students this year. Not every student can score the highest points but we do encourage boys at Clongowes to work hard and fulfill their potential – for that reason I am proud of their accomplishments and wish them well in the next steps of their individual journeys.”
Once all the envelopes were open, Staff joined with the students and their families to celebrate this significant milestone in the lives of the class of Rhetoric 2016 in the Refectory. It may be some time before we once again see the boys back at Clongowes and we sincerely wish them all the very best.
