Congratulations to the Class of 2015 and their mentors on achieving an excellent points-average of just over 432 points in the results issued by the Department of Education earlier this morning.

For the record, one third of the class achieved 500 points or more, and half of these achieved 550 or more, including seven students on 5 or more As, and over half of the class achieved at least 450 points. While this is very satisfactory, it is inevitable that some will be disappointed with an individual result: our predominant memory of this class, however, is of their character: this is what is important and is what will give meaning and direction to their lives.

While this represents a great achievement, their richer legacy lies in the persons they are becoming: they leave us with enormous potential to help to create a better, fairer and less greedy world. They also leave us with a rich reservoir of memory, witness their achievements in sport – who will forget the total ‘soccer’ played this past season! – drama, music, and so on, this past year. We will greatly miss in particular their rich contribution to the Sunday liturgies and their outstanding leadership triumvirate.
