Awareness Ribbon Day - Clongowes Wood College

Fundraising for Cancer Research

Next Thursday, 5th February, in conjunction with The Caroline Foundation we are going to have an AWARENESS RIBBON DAY.

The Caroline Foundation (a constituent of Prof. John Crown’s Cancer Clinical Research Trust [www.ccrt.ie]) was set up in 2013 in memory of Caroline Dwyer-Hickey, who died aged 35 having lived with cancer for nine years. The focus of the Foundation is cancer research. Caroline was a primary teacher and Caroline’s Dad, Dermod Dwyer is a past student of Clongowes (Class of 1964).

In May 2013 the Foundation set a new Guinness World Record for the Longest Awareness Ribbon Chain. Building on that achievement they have asked that schools fundraise around WORLD CANCER DAY (Wednesday 4th February)

The concept is very simple: Both students and staff will wear ‘purple’ ribbons and donate € 2. Students will arrive year by year into the room beside Mr. Kelly’s office on Tuesday morning from 08.15 up until Morning Prayer. As each year group arrives at the door assigned students will be collecting the money with buckets, while others will be giving out the ribbons.

So please don’t forget your money for a very worthy cause and most of all wear your ribbon on the day.  You can keep updated with how the Caroline foundation are getting on with their fundraising by logging on to their Facebook page
