Posted: 28th May 2013

On Friday 24th May the Board of Management appointed Mr Martin Wallace as Assistant Headmaster of Clongowes to succeed Mr Martin Nugent, who will step down from the post on August 31st after 13 years. Mr Nugent is taking well-earned retirement after a teaching career of 40 years, the last 38 of which were spent in Clongowes.

Martin Wallace joined the academic staff in 1979 and has been a stalwart of the English and Latin departments ever since. He has also contributed to many other areas of school life including drama, soccer and chess and has also served as Academic Year Head in the Higher Line. In recent years Martin has been instrumental in the success of the Alberto Hurtado Scholarship Fund of which he is Programme Co-ordinator.

The Headmaster Fr Moloney greeted the appointment of Mr Wallace with great enthusiasm. Speaking to the Board last night and again to the Academic Staff this morning he said that he looks forward to working with Mr Wallace in his new role. Fr Moloney said that he has great confidence in Martin’s ability to take on and develop the position vacated by his predecessor and asked for our prayers to bless him in his work.
