Leaving Certificate Results - Clongowes Wood College

Posted: 29th August 2013

On Wednesday 14th August the boys from Rhetoric 2013 returned the school to collect their Leaving Certificate results. In a letter to the parents the Headmaster Fr Moloney congratulated them on an outstanding performance.

“We had high expectations of the boys, which they surpassed by some distance. With a points average of almost 470, the results represent one of the best examination performances in the history of the school. Three boys achieved 600 or more points and nobody ‘bombed’ at the lower end: in the core subjects, in fact, there wasn’t a single failure. A special word of congratulations must go to Chris Coakley on his six A1s, matching the achievement of Peadar Timmins the previous year. In a class of 77 students 13 achieved 550 or more points; 28 achieved 500 or more; 52 achieved 450 or more; 61 achieved 400 or more.

The teachers involved, not least those in Learning Support, and their prefects deserve great credit for this excellent outcome.  I would be remiss were I not also to mention the work of Mr. O’Hara as the Academic Year Head. Such results raise the bar of expectation for the incoming Rhetoric and are an encouragement for everyone. It is worth contrasting these results with the same class’s rather ‘flat’ Junior Certificate results: our contention is that what Clongowes offers is a six year programme, with significant ‘added value’ over the full term.”

We wish the boys continued success in the next stage of their lives and fulfillment in their careers in the knowledge that their time in Clongowes will stand to them in the years to come.
