Expectant waiting and preparation - Clongowes Wood College

Posted: 11th December 2013

Last Wednesday, 4th of December we held our annual Advent Reconciliation Service. Under the careful direction and management of our Liturgical Director, Mr. Cyril Murphy this Advent service proved both prayerful and enjoyable for the students.

The Boys’ Chapel was set up in a welcoming manner appropriate to this time of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus. The confessors and schola were in position to receive the students as they gathered and the boys took their seats around the cross that was lit in the centre. Other lighting was subdued in the Chapel and the atmosphere was intensified even further with the Taizé chants from the choir in the background.

Fr. Jim Culliton SJ explained the meaning of the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the examination of conscience. He was assisted in the administration of the sacrament by other members of the Clongowes community, Frs. Dermot Murray, Michael Sheil, Barney McGuckian and Bruce Bradley.

There was then time for reflection followed by a blessing and a reading from Isaiah by Ms Anne Marie Dolan, Pastoral Assistant to the Headmaster

Ms Anne Marie Dolan
